| The Landscape of Agribusiness – A Roundtable Discussion |
|
The conversation, “The American Landscape of Agribusiness: Technology’s Impact on Agriculture and Agriculture’s Impact on the National Economy,” which is open to the public, will center on, among other things, the role of technology on the future of agribusiness and the role of agribusiness on the future of our economy. Refreshments will be served. Crosby and co-owner John Mangus founded CAS, an economic consulting firm specializing in research and outreach in the agriculture sector, in 2004 and have since completed dozens of projects affecting producers in 44 states. Under Crosby’s direction, CAS partnered with Kansas State University to design and develop BeefBasis.com, which forecasts feeder cattle basis and prices at livestock auctions in 25 states. In addition to price forecasts, BeefBasis.com provides hedging analysis and pricing strategy analysis, as well as historical market data from every livestock auction in the country that reports to the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service. A fifth-generation rancher, Crosby also owns and manages a cow-calf operation in northern Wyoming. Having grown up on a family ranch that he now owns a part of, Crosby has a broad range of experience with the business and production side of agriculture. This experience mix enables him to understand the challenges that producers face, and offer practical, common-sense analysis on an operational level. He has been featured in numerous trade publications, and has been a featured speaker at producer meetings all over the country. Crosby is an experienced commodities trader and regularly presents lectures and seminars on the use and benefits of futures markets as risk management tools. You can follow his market insights on Twitter under the handle mbacowboy, a name that originated with CNBC’s Jane Wells, who introduced him in one of her stories as “a cowboy with an MBA.” Crosby earned an MBA from Brigham Young University. He and his wife, Desirée, have four children and live on the family ranch in Cowley, Wyoming.
