HARTSVILLE, S.C. – July 18, 2011 – Students enrolled in Coker College’s Summer Performing Arts Camp will present  “Seussical Jr.” in the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, and Friday, July 22. Tickets are $3.

The day camp, “Singing & Dancing & Acting,” which served 23 area students aged 10-16 and ran from July 11-22, focused on singing, dancing, acting and a bit of technical theater.

“The cast has truly made this musical – a fantastical and heartwarming story of friendship and community – on its own and they’ve done it in just eight days," said camp director Associate Professor of Theater Phyllis Fields.  “Given that it normally requires six to eight weeks to create a theatrical production, when our students perform the show’s signature piece, ‘Anything is Possible,’ every member in the audience should be a believer.”

A number of Coker College students and alumni pitched in as counselors to make the summer camp a success.  Alumni Tara Haynes, Amesha Johnson and Taylor Adams, were joined by current students Jon Moree, Dustin Moree, Briana Lotan, Brianna Fowler and Amy Nelson.

Technical direction and support for the production was proved by Assistant Professor of Theater David Dawson and Assistant Technical Director Trevor Robinson.  Director of Athletics Media Relations Christian Stryker and Coordinator of Online Programs Tasha Stryker also provided support as special crew members.
