“My work stems from exploring the human body physically, explained Glidden, a senior from Columbia, S.C. “I enjoy the landscape that our bodies create, and through my interest in modern literature and religion I began to separate the physical shell that we all have in common and what that shell may hold. “I'm really excited to show my work since there hasn't been any sculpture work like mine shown during my stay at Coker,” Glidden added. Senior exhibitions, a 43-year tradition at Coker, are required of graduating art majors and are intended to represent the culmination of four years of study and offer a glimpse of the directions the artists may explore with their work following graduation. The senior art exhibition schedule this year is as follows:
The receptions for each student’s show, which take place on Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m., are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Students who major in art select from four concentrations: fine arts, graphics and web design, photography and art education. The Cecelia Coker Bell Gallery is located in the Gladys C. Fort Art Building on the Coker College campus. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, while classes are in session. Coker College upholds and defends the intellectual and artistic freedom of its faculty and students as they study and create art through which they explore the full spectrum of human experience. The college considers such pursuits central to the spirit of inquiry and thoughtful discussion, which are at the heart of a liberal arts education.
