HARTSVILLE, S.C. – March 22, 2011 – The Hartsville-Coker Concert Association presents The Dick Goodwin Big Band on Thursday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the Center Theater in downtown Hartsville. 

The Hartsville High School Jazz Band, which is made of 24 students and directed by Roger Simpson, will join Goodwin’s band for a special performance.  The high school students will perform two selections at the beginning of the concert, one of which will feature a soloist from Goodwin’s band.

The Dick Goodwin Big Band has performed at major social events in the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida and Virginia and has been featured in concert with area orchestras.
The players in Goodwin’s band are Jim Hall, drums; Dwight Spencer, guitar; Terry Trentham, bass; Doug Graham, clarinet and saxophones; Charlie Polk and Dave Allison, trumpets; Bruce Clark, Ashley Fleshman and Ed Craft, trombones; and John Wilkinson and Kristi Kirk Hood, vocalists.

Goodwin and members of the band have performed with such notables as Ray Charles, Bob Hope, Marian McPartland, Clark Terry, Billy Taylor, Johnny Mathis, the Spinners, the Platters, the Temptations, the Guy Lombardo, Tommy Dorsey, Henry Mancini, Gregory Hines, Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin and the touring company for the Broadway show "Chicago."

Admission at the door is $25 for adults, $7 for children under 18 and students or free with a Coker College ID.

A partnership between Coker College and the Hartsville Community Concert Association presents an annual program of performing arts events in downtown Hartsville and on the Coker College campus.  Individual tickets are sold for each event or discounted season tickets are included in the Association’s membership.
