The position of FAR is one that most people are not familiar with, even those hardcore followers of college athletics. The FAR is a behind-the-scenes job, as that person is the liaison between the faculty and the student-athletes. At Coker, Crook is an Associate Professor of Mathematics, while also serving as the FAR. Crook’s duties as FAR require her to administer the NCAA recruiting test to all coaches, review any NCAA policy violations, facilitate postgraduate scholarship applications and chair the faculty athletic committee that approves all athletic schedules. As an FAR Fellow, she will attend the 2010 FAR Fellows Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana, in October to represent Coker College and Conference Carolinas. The goal of the Institute is to help refine the roles of the FAR and develop tools and best practices related to the FAR. -30- -------------------------------------------------- Founded in 1908, Coker College is an independent, co mprehensive college with a liberal arts core required of all students.
