“I chose Ecuador because it will give me the opportunity to work on my journalism skills while learning a new language,” said Sandridge. “I want to experience a new culture and a new way of living.” Congress established the Gilman Scholarship Program in 2000 to better prepare U.S. students to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world. The scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduates who receive Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university. Sandridge is pursuing a double major at Coker College in sports communication and sports management. She is also working towards a minor in Spanish. After Coker, she hopes to earn a master’s degree and have a career in broadcast journalism. Sandridge is a graduate of North Springs High School in Roswell, Ga. -30- ------------------------------------------------- Founded in 1908, Coker College is an independent, comprehensive college with a liberal arts core required of all students.
