Townsend will use the funds to complete an internship with the Marlboro County Department of Social Services. She is earning a Bachelor of Social Work from Coker College. The South Carolina Professional Development Consortium was established in 2009 by the South Carolina Department of Social Services and seven colleges and universities, including Coker College. The consortium works to increase the state’s number of credentialed social workers in child protective services and foster care. Founded in 1908, Coker College is an independent, comprehensive college with a liberal arts core required of all students. Coker provides quality educational experiences in and out of the classroom that prepare graduates for professional and personal success. U.S. News & World Report and other organizations consistently rank Coker among the nation’s best colleges.
