Coker Edged by Wingate University
HARTSVILLE, SC – The Cobras improved immensely over their previous six matches Monday but came up on the losing end once again 3-1 to Wingate University in women’s collegiate soccer. Two first half goals in the first seven minutes was all the Bulldogs would need in holding off the slumping Cobras. Coker showed signs of life with hard nosed aggressive play, but were sent to defeat for the seventh straight match. CC falls to 6-9 on the year, while the Bulldogs improve to 12-5.
Julie Law started the Bulldog scoring with an unassisted goal in the 4th minute of the first half. Veronica Acosta scored two minutes later to give Wingate a quick 2-0 lead. Coker responded in the 39th minute of the first half when leading scorer Megan Shaver redirected a corner kick from senior Sara Lauzze, finding the back of the net in between two Bulldog defenders.
With the score 2-1 late in the second half, Katie Paradise of Wingate headed the ball between the legs of Cobra goalkeeper Jacque Stewart to put the contest out of reach. The insurance goal was scored at 60:50 of the second half.
The Cobras look to avenge their losing streak Saturday, November 1st, when they host conference rival Mt. Olive College. Action is set to begin at 1:30 P.M.
