Cobras Earn Homecoming Win
Hartsville, SC – Coker controlled the run of play Friday night and finally broke through late for a 1-0 win over Anderson College in women’s collegiate soccer. The Cobras improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the CVAC, while the Trojans drop to 4-5-1 and 1-3-1 in the conference.
Coker had more than its share of opportunities to score, clanging two balls off the post and missing a wide open net. The game remained a 0-0 deadlock until the 86th minute when freshman Megan Shaver scored her team leading 12th goal on an assist from senior Sara Lauzze. Lauzze lofted a corner kick towards the front of the net that was scraped up and driven home by Shaver.
Sophomore Jacque Stewart collected four saves to record her second consecutive shutout. With the shutout, Stewart now has four on the season. Anderson’s Amy Davidson faced 15 shots, stopping seven.
The Cobras host CVAC powerhouse Belmont Abbey College Wednesday, October 8 at 5:00 P.M.
