Cobras Nipped In OT
CHARLOTTE, NC – Queens University of Charlotte took a 3-2 victory over Coker on a goal in the first minute of overtime Wednesday night in women’s collegiate soccer. The Cobras came back from 2-0 down in the second half but the sudden-death goal sent CC to its fifth straight defeat.
Coker played with a great deal more fire and intensity in Charlotte than in their previous two matches, and the effort showed on the field. Queens went on top three minutes into the second half and pulled ahead by two with a goal in the 63rd minute.
The defense didn't hang its heads and in the 66th minute, freshman Megan Shaver got one goal back to trail 2-1. With time dwindling away the Cobras kept the pressure on and drew a foul with less than seven minutes to play.
Shaver stepped over the ball and fired for her second goal of the night, knotting the score at 2-2. Coker forced the extra period but it didn’t last long, ending on Maria Housiadas’ second goal of the afternoon in the 91st minute.
Sophomore Jacque Stewart made five saves in goal for Coker and Megan Mueller had one for the Royals. Queens held a 22-6 advantage over the Cobras in shots.
Coker next hosts Pfeiffer University this Saturday, October 25th at 2:00 PM.
