Coker Loses Heartbreaker in CVAC Championship

Belmont, NC- The seventh seeded Cobras lost in heartbreaking fashion Saturday, 2-1 to Belmont Abbey College in the CVAC women’s soccer championship game.  It took two overtime periods for the Crusaders to put away the tired Cobras, who were playing in their second consecutive overtime match in two days.  The loss ends Coker’s cinderella run through the tournament one victory shy of their championship first conference championship in 10 years.

 

Coker Defeats Erskine in Shoot out to Reach CVAC Finals

Belmont, NC- The cinderella Cobras earned a spot in the CVAC finals Friday afternoon defeating sixth seeded Erskine College 3-2 in the women’s collegiate soccer semifinals.  With the score tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, the teams played two 10 minute overtime periods where no scoring took place.  The Cobras went on to outscore the Fleet 4-3 in the deciding shoot out period to win 3-2.  The win improves Coker’s overall record to 9-9 while the Fleet finish the season 6-8-5.

 

Cobras Head To Semifinals With Upset Win

Banner Elk, NC – Coker College booked a spot in the CVAC Tournament Semifinals with a 1-0 upset victory at Lees-McRae Tuesday night in women’s collegiate soccer.  The Cobras went to Banner Elk as the seventh seed in the tournament and shocked the second seeded Bobcats.

     The Cobras were awarded a free kick midway into the contest courtesy of a Lees-McRae foul.  Senior Jodi Rummel took advantage of the scoring opportunity, sending a pass towards the front of the net that was picked up and directed home by freshmen Cara Durrance.  The goal, scored in the 22nd minute of the first half, was Durrance’s second tally of the season.  This was the only scoring the Cobras would need as their defense held firm, resisting every Bobcat scoring opportunity. 

 

Coker Travels To Lees McRae

Hartsville, SC - Coker College women's soccer completed the 2003 regular season with a 7-9 (6-4 CVAC) record that placed them in seventh for the conference tournament.  They will travel to Lees McRae Tuesday for a 7:00 PM kickoff with the second seeded Bobcats  who have a 11-5-3 (7-1-2 CVAC).  The winner will advance to the CVAC Final Four to play the Barton vs. Erskine winner Friday afternoon at 1:30 PM at Belmont Abbey College.

 

 Bustamante's Four Goals Pace Cobras

Hartsville, SC – Coker finished its regular season on a high note Saturday, shutting out Mt. Olive College 6-0 in women’s collegiate soccer.  The Cobras dominated from start to finish and qualified for the CVAC Tournament for the first time in four years.  CC improves to 7-9 on the year and 4-6 in the conference, while the Trojans fall to 3-13 and 0-10 in the CVAC.

 

Shaver Breaks Season Scoring Record

Hartsville, SC - Freshman Megan Shaver (Athens, TN/McMinn HS) netted her 16th goal on the season in Monday night's game against Wingate University to surpass Crystal McCamis in most goals scored in a season.  McCamis, a 1994 graduate of Coker, scored 15 goals in her senior season.  The record stood for eight years.  Shaver can still add to her mark as the Cobras have one more regular season match before heading to the conference tournament.

 

Coker Edged by Wingate

Hartsville, SC – The Cobras improved immensely over their previous six matches Monday but came up on the losing end once again 3-1 to Wingate University in women’s collegiate soccer.  Two first half goals in the first seven minutes was all the Bulldogs would need in holding off the slumping Cobras.  Coker showed signs of life with hard nosed aggressive play, but were sent to defeat for the seventh straight match.  CC falls to 6-9 on the year, while the Bulldogs improve to 12-5.

 

Coker Comes Up Just Short

Hartsville, SC – Coker came up short Saturday afternoon in its bid to end a current six game losing streak.  The Cobras were unable to establish any sort of rhythm and were shutout 1-0 by Pfeiffer University in women’s collegiate soccer.  CC falls to 6-8 on the year and 3-6 in the conference, while the Falcons improve to 6-7-2 and 4-2 in the CVAC.

 

Cobras Nipped In OT

Charlotte, NC – Queens University of Charlotte took a 3-2 victory over Coker on a goal in the first minute of overtime Wednesday night in women’s collegiate soccer.  The Cobras came back from 2-0 down in the second half but the sudden-death goal sent CC to its fifth straight defeat.

 

Cobras Show Improvement But Fall 5-1

Hartsville, SC – Coker came out flat in its conference match against Lees-McRae Saturday afternoon and paid for it in a 5-1 defeat in women’s collegiate soccer.  The Cobras gave up two goals in the first 10 minutes and two more in the next 10 minutes in the loss.  CC falls to 6-6 on the year and 3-4 in the conference, while the Bobcats move to 8-4-2 and 5-1-1 in the CVAC.

 

Cobras Struggle At Lander

Greenwood, SC – Coker dropped its third consecutive game Monday night 5-1 at Lander University in women’s collegiate soccer.  The Cobras fall to 6-5 on the year, while the Bearcats improve to 7-4.

 

Coker Struggles In 3-0 Loss

Due West, SC – Coker dropped its second game of the week 3-0 at Erskine College Saturday afternoon in women’s collegiate soccer.  CC now stands at 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the CVAC, while the Flying Fleet improve to 4-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the conference.

 

Cobras Show Improvement But Fall 2-1

Hartsville, SC – The Coker College women’s soccer team was unable to extend its winning streak to four Wednesday evening in a 2-1 loss to Belmont Abbey College.  The loss drops the Cobras record to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the CVAC.  The Crusaders improve to 8-5 overall and remain perfect at 7-0 in the conference.

 

Cobras Earn Homecoming Win

Hartsville, SC – Coker controlled the run of play Friday night and finally broke through late for a 1-0 win over Anderson College in women’s collegiate soccer.  The Cobras improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the CVAC, while the Trojans drop to 4-5-1 and 1-3-1 in the conference.

 

 

Cobras Dominate In 6-0 Win

Columbia, SC – The Coker women’s collegiate soccer team won its second straight in impressive fashion defeating Columbia College 6-0 Tuesday afternoon.  The Cobras improve to 5-2 on the young season.

 

Shaver Shines In 2-0 Win

GAFFNEY, SC – Coker snapped a two game skid with a 2-0 victory at Limestone College Saturday afternoon in women’s collegiate soccer.  The Cobras improve to 4-2 on the year and 2-1 in the CVAC, while LC drops to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in conference.

 

Cobras Fall 3-2 To Bulldogs

Orangeburg, SC – Coker lost a heartbreaker 3-2 at NCAA Division I South Carolina State Wednesday night in women’s collegiate soccer.  The Cobras fall to 3-2 on the year.

 

Cobras Drop First To Barton

Wilson, NC – Coker dropped its first match of the season 2-1 at Barton Saturday afternoon in women’s collegiate soccer.  CC falls to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in the CVAC, while the Bulldogs improve to 2-5, 1-1 in conference.

 

Late Goal Keeps Cobras Perfect

Hartsville, SC – Coker needed a late goal Wednesday night to pull out a 2-1 win over St. Andrews in women’s collegiate soccer.  The Cobras improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the CVAC, while the Knights drop to 1-4-1 on the year and 0-1-1 in the conference. 

Freshman Duo Leads Cobras

Hartsville, SC – The Coker College women’s collegiate soccer team defeated the Indians of Newberry College by a score of 6-1 Monday evening.  The Cobras improve to 2-0 with the win while the Indians fall to 1-4.

Megan Shaver Named CVAC Player Of The Week

Hartsville, SC Megan Shaver of Coker College (1-0 overall, 0-0 CVAC) has been selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) women’s soccer Player of the Week.  Shaver came up big in her first game as a Cobra in a 4-0 victory over Converse College.  The Cobras went into the half tied at 0-0.  Shaver broke the game open with a hat-trick in the second half to increase the Cobras 1-0 lead.  The freshman from Athens, TN scored first on a header from her senior teammate.  Her second goal opportunity came after she disposed of an all-star defender of the ball and then beat the keeper cleanly for a 3-0 Cobra lead.

 

Shaver's Hat Trick Leads Coker In 4-0 Win

Hartsville, SC – Coker opened the 2003 season with a 4-0 shutout win at Converse Saturday afternoon in women’s collegiate soccer.  The Cobras are 1-0 on the year, while Converse drops to 1-3.

        The two teams went into the half tied 0-0 before Coker got things going in the second period.  Freshman Andrea Bustamante started the scoring on an assist from classmate Cara Durrance
