improbable run to the CVAC championship game ended Saturday afternoon with a
78-63 loss to Anderson College in women’s collegiate basketball. The Cobras had
no answer for conference Freshman of the Year Lashonda Chiles, who recorded 28
points, five rebounds, four assists and was named
Tournament MVP.

Coker’s women’s basketball team
defeated top-seeded Barton College 83-75 Friday afternoon to advance to the CVAC
Championship game for the first time since 1998. The Cobras shot a blistering
67 percent in the second half to pull out the upset at Belk Arena on the campus
of Erskine College.
Cobras Guaranteed Second-Round Home Game
With their 67-57 win
over Erskine College on Monday night and a loss by Lees-McRae the Coker College
women's basketball team has secured a first-round bye in the CVAC tournament and
will host either Lees-McRae or Erskine next Wednesday night at 7:00 PM.

first round bye in the CVAC tournament with a 67-57 win over Erskine College
Monday night in women’s collegiate basketball. The Cobras are assured at least
the fourth or fifth seed and now stand at 16-9 overall and 12-6 in the

HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker had a
rough outing Saturday afternoon in a 86-67 loss to Anderson in women’s
collegiate basketball. The Cobras now stand at 15-9 overall and 11-6 in the
CVAC, while the Lady Trojans improve to 18-6 and 13-4 in the CVAC.

Davis Scores 1000th Point in Win Over Limestone
HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker’s women’s
basketball team overcame a sluggish first half to defeat Limestone 59-47
Thursday night. Senior Selena Davis scored her 1,000th career
point in the win on a three-pointer in the second half. The Cobras improve to
15-8 overall and 11-5 in the CVAC, while the Saints drop to 3-19 and 2-16.

LAURINBURG, NC – Coker’s women’s
basketball team got back on track with a 65-57 victory at St. Andrews
Presbyterian College Monday night. The Cobras won by getting to the foul line
and out-rebounding the Knights 38-32. Coker drops to 14-8 overall and 10-5 in
the CVAC, while St. Andrews falls to 10-13, 7-9 in the CVAC.

SC – Coker College’s women’s basketball team got
back to their winning ways Thursday night on the road at Limestone College
beating the Saints 70-57 in Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference action. The
win runs the Cobras’ record to 13-7 overall and 9-4 in the CVAC, while Limestone
drops to 6-14 overall and 5-8 in conference play.

Hemingway of Coker College has been selected as the NCAA Division II
Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week
for the second week this season. Hemingway helped the Cobras run their winning
streak to a school record eight consecutive games with three wins this week.
Cobras Streak Halted At Barton
WILSON, NC – Coker’s eight-game
winning streak came to an end Monday night in a 71-62 loss at Barton in women’s
collegiate basketball. The Cobras led for the majority of the game but faded
down the stretch, scoring only three points in the final three minutes of play.
Coker drops to 12-7 overall and 8-4 in the CVAC, while Barton improves to 17-3,
13-1 in the conference.

Cobras Streak Reaches Seven
HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker ran its
winning streak to
seven games Thursday night with a 75-62 win over Mt. Olive in
women’s collegiate basketball. The Cobras stayed in front of the Lady Trojans
by hitting 28-31 foul shots, a 90 percent rate. The Cobras improve to 11-6 and
7-3 in the CVAC, while MOC drops to 7-10 and 3-8 in the conference.

Cobras Earn Sixth Consecutive Win
MISENHEIMER, NC – Coker erased an
eight point halftime deficit with a
dominating performance in the second period
to defeat Pfeiffer University 69-49 Monday night in women’s collegiate
basketball. Coker scored 47 points in the second half, only two less than the
Falcons scored all game. Coker’s win streak reaches six games and the team now
stands at 10-6 on the year and 6-3 in the CVAC.

HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker pulled out
a thrilling 74-68 victory over Lees-McRae College Saturday afternoon in
women’s
collegiate basketball. Senior Leanne Chandler came up big down the
stretch, scoring six of CC’s final 11 points as they outscored the Bobcats 13-2
in the last four minutes. The Cobras keep rolling along with their 5th
consecutive win, and improve to 9-6 and 5-3 in the CVAC, while LMC drops to 8-8
and 5-4 in the conference.

National Rankings
Coker's women's
basketball team is ranked second in the country in rebounding margin per game.
The Cobras, averaging 49.2 rebounds per contest, hold a commanding advantage of
12.7 more per game over their contestants. Coker's field goal percentage
defense is ranked 19th allowing opponents to convert on 35.1 percent of their
chances. Junior forward Shame Hemingway is ranked 11th in rebounds per
game with an 11.3 average.
Cobras Take Third Consecutive Victory
DUE WEST, SC – Coker earned its
third consecutive victory Thursday evening with a 69-60 decision at Erskine
College in women’s collegiate basketball. The Cobras shot 54 percent from the
field and outrebounded the Flying Fleet by six to surge to victory. Coker
surpasses the .500 mark again at 7-6 on the year and 4-3 in the CVAC, while EC
drops to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Cobras Cruise to 75-53 Victory
HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker took
advantage its size inside Monday night in a 75-53 victory over St. Andrews
Presbyterian College in women’s collegiate basketball. Both teams struggled
shooting the ball but Coker held a major advantage on the boards, out-rebounding
their foes 62-31, equaling second chance points. The Cobras improve to 6-6 and
3-3 in the CVAC, while SAPC drops to 3-10 overall and 1-6 in the conference.

CHARLOTTE, NC – Coker rebounded
from consecutive losses with a 72-55 conference road win at Queen’s University
of Charlotte Saturday evening. The Cobras pounded the boards on a night when
both teams struggled from the field, hauling in 58 rebounds to the Royals 47.
Coker improves to 5-6 on the year and 2-3 in the conference, while Queens falls
to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the CVAC.

Cobras Upset Bid Falls Short
Hartsville, SC – Coker played the
CVAC leading Barton Bulldogs even but couldn’t grab two crucial rebounds in the
final minute, leading to a 72-68 loss in women’s collegiate basketball. There
were 14 lead changes in the game but BC took the final lead and held on for the
victory. CC falls to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the CVAC, while Barton improves to
9-2 and a perfect 5-0 in conference.

basketball. The Cobras stayed close the whole game but couldn’t pull out a road

visiting Pfeiffer University Saturday afternoon in women’s collegiate
basketball. The Cobras limited their turnovers to 14 and used height inside to

while Pfeiffer drops to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in conference.

won for the third consecutive time Wednesday night, defeating Allen University
57-32 in women’s collegiate basketball. The Cobras dominated from start to
finish and experienced only minor problems to escape Allen victorious. The

Hemingway Named CVAC Player of the Week

Senior Shamae Hemingway of Coker
College (2-0 overall, 0-0 CVAC) has
been
selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women’s
basketball Player of the Week. Hemingway has been a key component in the Cobras
2-0 start. The Conway, SC native is averaging 18.5 points and 13 rebounds per
game on 50 percent shooting thus far. Shamae helped Coker earn a tough 68-58
win at Southern Wesleyan in the first game on the season when foul trouble in
the front-court put the Cobras in a difficult situation. Hemingway leads the
CVAC in rebounding (13 RPG) and blocks (2.5 BPG).
Cobras Cruise Past Newberry
Hartsville, SC – The Coker women
won their 2003 home opener versus Newberry College Monday night, 77-48 in
women’s collegiate basketball. The Cobras lead from start to finish and won for
the second consecutive time. The Cobras improve to 2-0 on the season while the
Indians drop to 2-2.

Cobras Open Up 2003 Season with a Win

SC – The Coker Women spoiled Southern Wesleyan University’s home
opener Saturday with a 68-58 win in women’s collegiate basketball. The Cobras
improve to 1-0 on the season while the Warriors drop to 1-2.
Senior Shamae Hemingway led the Cobras with 21 points and 15 rebounds.

Improvement 7th Most In 2002-03

The Coker College women's basketball team is excited
over its recent recognition of last season's accomplishments. The NCAA
Statistics Office recently announced the Division II national rankings for the
most improved teams during the 2002-2003 season. The Cobras finished the
year as the #7 most improved team in the country, moving from a 3-23 record in
2001-2002 to an 11-16 finish in 2002-2003. Coker has all of its starters
returning for the 2003-2004 campaign, and hopes to continue this successful
rebuilding process.
