Coker Falters In Fourth Set
HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker came up short against Pfeiffer Monday night, losing 3-1 to the Falcons in women’s collegiate volleyball. The Cobras drop to 8-16 overall and 2-11 in the CVAC, while PU improves to 11-14 and 6-5 in the CVAC.
Coker played enthusiastically in the first game and pulled out a 31-29 victory over the hard-hitting Falcons. Pfeiffer made a late comeback from four points down but the Cobras held their own after a 28-28 tie. Some of the intensity of the first set seemed to ware off in game two and Coker paid the price, falling 30-18 in the set.
Senior Lindsay Bocskay pounded five kills in the third set but the team didn’t muster much else in the 30-27 defeat. With backs against the wall the Cobras responded in the fourth set and appeared to be on the way to a deciding fifth set. However, a late lead evaporated and, unlike the first set, Coker couldn’t hold the Falcons off. Pfeiffer took advantage of CC’s tentativeness and took the match with a 30-28 fourth frame victory.
Bosckay finished with three service aces, 13 kills and only
two errors in an aggressive performance. Sophomore Andrea Manuel led the
Cobras with 14 kills, and 33 digs, and senior Selena
Davis added 11 kills and 18 digs with only one hitting error. Freshman
Tara Nelson contributed 40 assists, 19 digs, and two blocks.
Coker travels to Allen University on Wednesday, October 23, for a 6:00 PM match.
