Cobras Winless At Lees-McRae Tournament
BANNER ELK, NC – Coker fell in the first game of the Lees-McRae College Invitational 3-0 to the host Bobcats Friday night in collegiate volleyball. The Cobras fall to 8-11 overall and 2-9 in the CVAC, and will continue play in the tournament tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM against Lenoir-Rhyne.
Lees-McRae, second in the conference, rattled off wins of 30-22, 30-11, and 30-22 in the match. Sophomore Andrea Manuel tallied nine kills and twelve digs, and senior Selena Davis contributed 14 digs. Freshman setter Tara Nelson added 21 assists.
BANNER ELK, NC – Coker was defeated twice on Saturday at the Lees-McRae Invitational, losing 3-1 to Lenoir-Rhyne and 3-1 to Queens University of Charlotte in collegiate volleyball. The Cobras fall to 8-13 on the season.
In the morning game, Coker won the first set 30-24 over the Bears, but lost the next three 30-26, 30-20, and 30-19. Sophomore Andrea Manuel collected 17 kills, 17 digs, four block assists and three block solos.
Senior Selena Davis added nine kills, 22 digs, five block assists and four block solos, and classmate Frederica McClary hit 15 kills. Freshman Tara Nelson had 39 assists and a team high 25 digs, and senior Jessica McKee added 20 digs. Twin freshmen Nicole and Ashley Schaum combined for 30 digs, which helped the Cobras to an amazing 126 digs in the contest.
In game two, Coker dropped the first two sets 30-23 and 30-23, before rebounding for a 30-24 set three win. The Cobras nearly forced a fifth set but came up just short, 31-29. Manuel led again with 16 kills 22 digs and three aces.
Nelson had seven kills, 32 assists and 15 digs, and classmate Courtney Barton finished with nine kills and three block assists. Davis totaled eight kills and 16 digs, and Nicole Schaum contributed another 16 digs.
