Cobras Swept By Longwood
HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker’s slump continued Saturday afternoon with a pair of losses to former CVAC rival Longwood University in collegiate softball. Longwood shut out the Cobras, winning 5-0 and 8-0 in six innings. CC drops to 29-12 on the year while the Lancers improve to 26-10.
Jen Steele and Abbey Welch allowed a combined four hits in the two games while LU pounded out 23 of their own. The Cobras also committed three errors which allowed three unearned runs to score.
In game one the Lancers scored two in the second and three in the fourth for the 5-0 win. Senior Jamie Clingan/Glen Burnie, MD, and sophomores Amy Shelley/Marion, SC and Jacque Stewart/Cumming, GA had Coker’s three hits.
Game two followed a similar story line as the Cobras, missing there of their top four hitters, continued to struggle against Lancer pitching. Clingan picked up another single in the game but that was the extent of the Coker offense.
Sophomore Amanda Shelton/Huntington Beach, CA lost in game one, allowing 10 hits and four earned runs in seven innings. Freshman Somer Bigham/Florence, SC took the loss in game two, going six innings with 13 hits and six earned runs allowed, while striking out seven.
The Cobras will try to break out of their funk on Sunday afternoon, March 28, at 2:00 PM when the host Belmont Abbey.
