HARTSVILLE, SC - Coker improved to 6-0 Saturday afternoon with 3-0 and 11-2 victories over Lees-McRae in collegiate softball.
Freshman Somer Bigham/Florence dominated the Bobcats in game one, pitching a complete-game four hitter. Bigham gave up only one walk to LMC and struck out 14 batters.
With Bigham rolling, the Cobra offense needed only one run in the third and two in the fourth to get the win. Senior Sheritha McKenzie/Lake City went 2-3 with an RBI and a stolen base, and classmate Kaylene Fountain/Spokane, WA went got a hit and two stolen bases. Sophomores Marie Mascio/Pelion, Ashley Altman/Lake City, and Amy Shelley/Marion each picked up a hit and a run scored.
Coker broke open a 2-1 game in the third inning of game two with six runs on three hits. CC added three more in the fourth inning to close the door on the Bobcats. The Cobras had eight hits in the game but were also helped by seven LMC errors.
Fountain earned the win with five solid innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out five. Classmate Summer Joyner/Andrews 1-2 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored, and Mascio added another hit, three RBI and a run scored. Fountain had two hits and two runs scored, and Brandi Holder/Durham, NC went 2-3 with a RBI and two runs scored.
Coker next hosts Barton College on Friday, February 27, at 2:00 PM.
