HARTSVILLE, SC - Coker took a pair of games from Limestone College Wednesday afternoon 4-1 and 10-1 in collegiate softball. The Cobras improve to 12-0 on the year while the Saints fall to 4-10.
Senior Kaylene Fountain/Spokane, WA hit a three-run homer in the third inning of game one and then took care of Limestone from the pitchers circle. Fountain pitched all seven innings, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out seven to earn her sixth win of the season.
Coker added one more in the fifth inning on a RBI single from sophomore Jacque Stewart/Cumming, GA and LC scored its only run in the sixth inning. Fountain went 2-4 with a run scored and three RBI in the game, and Stewart was 2-2 with one RBI. Sophomore Christan Morabito/Charlotte, NC went 2-4 with a double and a run scored.
In game two the Cobras used a big first inning and an outstanding pitching performance from sophomore Amanda Shelton/Huntington Beach, CA to get the win. Coker scored seven runs in the first and Shelton did the rest, allowing only two hits, one earned run, one walk, and striking out three. Shelton also helped herself in the batter’s box, going 1-2 with a double, one RBI, and a run scored.
Morabito led CC with two hits, two RBI, another double and two runs scored, and Stewart came through with a hit, two RBI and a run scored. Senior Jamie Clingan/Glen Burnie, MD helped the cause with a hit, a walk, two runs scored and two RBI.
The Cobras are at home again on Thursday, March 4, for a 2:00 PM double-header against Wheeling Jesuit.
