FLORENCE, SC – Coker ended a disappointing three days at the Patriot Invitational with a pair of losses Sunday afternoon at Freedom Florence in collegiate softball.  The Cobras fell 8-2 to number one ranked Kennesaw State in the morning and 10-3 to USC-Spartanburg in the afternoon.  CC drops to 23-6 on the season and will try to regroup at St. Andrews on Tuesday.

Against the high-flying Owls, Coker took a 2-1 lead in the second inning but a six-run fourth inning by KSU did the Cobras in.  Freshman Somer Bigham/Florence, SC took the loss, going three and a third innings with six hits and five earned runs allowed.  Senior Sheritha McKenzie/Lake City, SC was a perfect 3-3 in the game and classmate Betsy Freeman/Palatka, FL went 1-2 with a RBI.

Coker tied the Rifles at 1-1 in the first inning but another six-run inning, this time in the third, proved to be the Cobras undoing.  Bigham was the pitcher of record, going three innings with seven runs allowed, only four of them earned.

Sophomore Christan Morabito/Charlotte, NC went 2-3 with a double and two runs scored and McKenzie remained perfect, going 2-2 with a double and a run scored.  Sophomore Amy Shelley/Marion, SC also went 2-2 with a double and classmate Brandi Holder/Durham, NC finished 1-3 with a single.

The Cobras will try to regroup on Saturday in the tournament with two more difficult games against Columbus State at 1:00 PM and North Florida at 5:00 PM.
