DUE WEST, SC - Coker swept a double header from Erskine in Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference softball action Saturday afternoon. Coker improves to 27-6 overall and 10-0 in the CVAC, while Erskine falls to 9-21 and 2-4.
Coker won game one 4-0 behind freshman Somer Bigham’s/Florence, SC second perfect game shut out of the year. Bigham struck out seven batters, while not allowing a single runner to reach base. The Cobra’s were led by senior Kaylene Fountain/Spokane, WA, who was 2-4 with two doubles and two runs batted in, while classmate Sheritha McKenzie/Lake City, SC went 3-4 with a double and two runs scored. Kim Gunter took the loss, allowing four runs in seven innings.
Coker took game two 7-0, scoring in five of the seven innings. Fountain picked up the win, allowing just three hits and striking out 13. Senior Summer Joyner/Andrews, SC was 2-2 with a double, a home run and three RBI’s, while sophomore Christan Morabito/Charlotte, NC was 3-5 with a double and two runs batted in to lead the Cobra’s. Elizabeth Miller, Amy Miller and Jenna Burdette each had hits for the Fleet. Elizabeth Miller took the loss, allowing five runs in four innings of work.
The Cobras will stay in the upstate for Sunday’s double-header at Anderson College at 2:00 PM.
