SALISBURY, NC - Coker defeated Wheeling Jesuit 3-0 but lost 8-0 to Georgia College & State University Friday night in collegiate softball. CC now stands at 15-1 on the year and continues play at Catawba on Saturday at 1:00 and 5:00 PM.
The Cobras won their third consecutive game over Wheeling Jesuit in game one with senior Kaylene Fountain/Spokane, WA on the mound. Fountain pitched a complete game with four strikeouts and three hits allowed.
Sophomore Christan Morabito/Charlotte, NC went 2-4 with a double and Fountain was 1-2 with a double, two RBI and a base on balls. Sophomore Brandi Holder/Durham, NC went 2-3.
Game two was a different story, however, as the Cobras ran into last season’s NCAA Division II runner up. The Bobcats blitzed Coker with 10 hits while limiting CC to only two base knocks. Freshman Somer Bigham/Florence, SC took her first loss of the year with three innings of work, allowing eight hits, four earned runs and striking out four batters.
Senior Summer Joyner/Andrews, SC went 1-1 with a walk and a stolen base, and Holder went 1-2. Sophomore Amanda Shelton/Huntington Beach, CA pitched one inning for Coker, striking out one and allowing two hits.
