Coker
Gives Run to CVAC Title, But Falls Short
FLORENCE, SC - Coker College's softball team entered the weekend
Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference tournament with a solid
chance at winning the title. In their first game, they were able to
power past Pfeiffer University 8-0 in five innings. A 3-1 win over
St. Andrews Presbyterian College in their second game gave promise
for the title run, until the Cobras hit the wall in the nightcap
losing to Belmont Abbey College 2-0 sending them into the loser's
bracket of the double-elimination tournament. If Coker was to win
the CVAC, it would have to climb the mountain on Sunday. A second
win over SAPC sent Coker to the championship where they would need
to beat BAC twice. Lead off singles for the Cobras led to a 2-0 lead
after the first inning, but the margin wouldn't stand as the
Crusaders won 3-2 to earn the CVAC's automatic bid to the NCAA
Regionals. Coker did place three on the
All-Tournament Team-- Amy Shelley, Jamie Cligan, and
Brandi Holder.
