Cobras Knock Off Royals 3-0
HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker ran its unbeaten streak to three matches Wednesday night with a 3-0 sweep of Queens University of Charlotte in collegiate volleyball. CC has won nine straight games during the streak and now stands at 12-11 overall and 4-7 in the CVAC. The Royals fall to 10-15, 4-7 in the conference.
The Cobras stayed just ahead of Queens throughout much of the first set, but pulled ahead late for the 30-25 win. The two teams stayed even again in the second set before CC broke away after leading at 23-20. Coker led 29-25 when a 10 minute delay caused by a serving disagreement interrupted the proceedings. The Royals won the following point but a serving error gave the Cobras the 30-26 victory.
The teams went back and forth again in the third set but CC found themselves trailing late 29-26. Coker staved off set point three times to even the score at 29-29 and put the next two points away for a thrilling 31-29 victory.
Junior Andrea Manuel/Spartanburg, SC led offensively with 15 kills and also collected 16 digs. Freshman Megan Haupt/Summerville, SC contributed 12 kills and freshman Jessica Norton/Rochester, MI added seven kills and seven digs. Sophomore Courtney Barton/Irmo, SC had seven kills and four blocks and classmate Tara Nelson/Rochester Hills, MI finished with 36 assists and 11 digs.
Coker returns to action this Friday night, October 22, against Anderson College at 6:30 PM in Hartsville.
