It took two timeouts but Coker finally pulled together in the opening set to earn a 30-23 decision over the Angels. CC came out of its second timeout trailing 19-14 but quickly snapped into gear with a powerful kill by junior Andrea Manuel/Spartanburg, SC. The attack started a 16-4 run that gave the home team a 1-0 lead.
The Cobras continued to play assertively in the second and third sets and won decisively, 30-15, and 30-23. Coker’s blocking and aggressive hitting proved to be the difference in the match as CC limited Meredith’s hitting opportunities.
Manuel led with 14 kills and 10 digs and freshman Megan Haupt/Summerville, SC contributed 12 kills. Freshman Margaret Madison/Savannah, GA had eight kills and two blocks and setter Tara Nelson/Rochester Hills, MI finished with 39 assists and 11 digs.
Against Peace, Coker got off to a fast start, forcing PC to call a timeout trailing 6-0. CC continued to pressure their visitors and took the first set 30-12. It was more of the same in the second as the Cobras opened up a 16-4 lead and rolled to a 30-14 win. Coker raced by the Pacers again in the third set, grabbing a 17-1 lead from the start and cruising to a 30-10 victory.
