Coker Falls In Three To Lees-McRae

HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker’s win streak ended at four this afternoon in a 3-0 loss to Lees-McRae in collegiate volleyball.  The Cobras played well enough to stay with the CVAC’s top-ranked team, but were unable to pull out a win in each set.  Coker drops to 13-12 overall and 5-8 in the CVAC, while LMC improves to 22-8, 12-2 in conference.

Coker took an 18-14 lead in the first game but the Bobcats slowly fought back and passed CC for a 30-27 win.  The Cobras went point for point again early in the second game and then came back from 19-12 down to even the match at 26-26.  Lees-McRae scored the next two and then closed out the match 30-27.

The Cobras jumped ahead again in the second game to lead 18-12, but the Trojans made another late run to tie the score at 26-26 and then lead 29-27.  CC got a side out to pull within one but then served the ball out of bounds and fell 30-28. 

Coker opened up an 11-4 lead in the third game but the Bobcats kept their poise and came back, eventually taking a 22-19 lead.  They continued to put pressure on the Cobras back line with solid hitting and finished off the match 30-24. 

Freshman Margaret Madison/Savannah, GA led the attack with 13 kills and two service aces.  Junior Andrea Manuel/Spartanburg, SC finished with 12 kills and 17 digs, and freshman Megan Haupt/Summerville, SC had eight kills.  Sophomore Tara Nelson/Rochester Hills, MI contributed 40 assists, three kills and 11 digs sophomore Ashley Schaum/Irmo, SC added five digs and two service aces. 

Coker now heads to Barton College on Wednesday, October 27, for a 6:30 match against the Bulldogs.
