Coker Swept At FMU
FLORENCE, SC – Sophomore Lezlie Logan pounded out 20 kills and freshman Jackie Phiel added a career-high 16 kills and 12 digs to lead Francis Marion University to a 30-24, 30-19, 30-27 non-conference win over local-rival Coker College, Tuesday night (Sept. 7) in women’s volleyball action.
FMU evens its record at 4-4 and will play in the AASU/Chatham Orthopaedic Classic this Friday and Saturday in Savannah, Ga. Coker suffers its first loss of the season and falls to 2-1.
Sophomore setter Melissa Hennessy handed out 32 assists for the Patriots, while freshman hitter Michelle Settergren registered 11 kills and libero Jessica Strader recorded 15 digs. Both Logan and Phiel also had four service aces apiece.
Freshman hitter Megan Haupt/Summerville, SC led Coker with 12 kills, while sophomore setter Tara Nelson/Rochester Hills, MI had 24 assists and 11 digs. Junior Andrea Manuel/Spartanburg, SC added eight kills and 11 digs and freshman Jessica Norton/Rochester, MI finished with five kills and 10 digs.
Coker will now prepare for its first CVAC match of the season on Wednesday, September 8, when the Cobras travel to face Belmont Abbey at 6:30 PM.
