Coker Earns Important Road Victory

Mt. Olive, NC – Coker College broke open a close game in the second half for an important 64-50 win at Mt. Olive Saturday afternoon in women’s collegiate basketball.  Coker improves to 10-11 and 8-7 in the CVAC, while the Trojans drop to 6-16, and 5-10 in the conference.

The Cobras led 29-24 at the half by holding the Trojans to 28 percent shooting and forcing 13 turnovers.  MOC only kept it that close by making 9-10 foul shots in the period.

The second half was more of the same as Mt. Olive managed to shoot 29 percent from the field and turned the ball over 12 more times.  Coker was out-rebounded 47-40 in the game for only the fourth time this season.

The Cobras received a career performance from junior Lindsay Bocskay, who scored 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots in 23 minutes of action. Classmate Shamae Hemingway found her shooting touch again to finish with a game-high 20 points and seven boards.  Junior Frederica McClary totaled 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.  Freshman Sarah Dorsch dished out eight assists and made two steals.

Ladora Charles led the Trojans with 14 points and Taneal Boone grabbed a game-high eight boards.

The Cobras return to Hartsville this Monday for another crucial conference game against Barton College.  The game is scheduled for a 5:30 PM tip-off.
