Coker Falls At Lees-McRae

Banner Elk, NC – Coker College fell behind in the first half and couldn’t come back in a 74-65 defeat at Lees-McRae Tuesday evening in women’s collegiate basketball.  Both teams shot a relatively low 39 percent from the field but the Bobcats made up the difference at the foul line, where they made 21-26 attempts.  Coker slips to 9-11 and 7-7 in the CVAC, while LMC improves to 14-7, and 10-4 in the conference.

Lees-McRae opened a 40-30 lead at the break that the Cobras weren’t able to overcome.  Coker played a much better second half, shooting 48 percent from the field as opposed to only 30 percent in the first period.  The Cobras did an excellent job on the boards, out-rebounding the Bobcats 50-36. 

Junior Leanne Chandler put up another double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while classmate Frederica McClary joined her with 11 points and 13 boards.  Junior Selena Davis scored 14 points and freshman Justina Dakins added six rebounds and four assists.

LMC also featured three double-digit scorers with Julie Hardison leading the way at 16 points and five assists.  Deanna Lady scored 15 points and Lisa Lane added 14 points.

The Cobras travel to Mt. Olive this Saturday, February 15, for a crucial conference battle with the Trojans beginning at 2:00 PM.
