Freshman Duo Leads Cobras
Hartsville, SC – The Coker College women’s collegiate soccer team defeated the Indians of Newberry College by a score of 6-1 Monday evening. The Cobras improve to 2-0 with the win while the Indians fall to 1-4.
Coker scored the first four goals of the contest and never looked back. Freshman Megan Shaver scored the first two on assists from senior Sara Lauzze and freshman Andrea Bustamante. Bustamante later added a pair of goals, one of which was assisted by Lauzze.
Junior Terie Watkins netted an unassisted goal, the first of her career, in the 18th minute. Freshman Eva Olvera completed the Coker scoring on another assist from Lauzze in the 82nd minute. Lauzze, a senior from Bath, NY, finished the contest with three assists.
Newberry’s lone goal came on a penalty kick in the 39th minute, and was scored from the spot by Brandi McCrae.
The Cobras return to action Wednesday, September 17, when they host conference opponent St. Andrews College. The match is set to begin at 5:00 PM
