Shaver's Hat Trick Lead's Coker
Hartsville, SC – Coker opened the 2003 season with a 4-0 shutout win at Converse Saturday afternoon in women’s collegiate soccer. The Cobras are 1-0 on the year, while Converse drops to 1-3.
The two teams went into the half tied 0-0 before Coker got things going in the second period. Freshman Andrea Bustamante started the scoring on an assist from classmate Cara Durrance.
Freshman Megan Shaver then took over, netting a hat trick in her first collegiate game. Shaver scored on a header for her first goal and scored her second after stealing the ball from an All-Star defender.
Coach Chris Ayer was pleased with the team’s performance in its season opener. “It was a good effort,” Ayer said. All the freshmen contributed in the win and I’m obviously pleased with the result.”
The Cobras are off now until Monday, September 15, when they face Newberry College at 7:00 PM in the home opener.
