Cobras Tied In Spartanburg
Spartanburg, SC -- Coker dominated its match at Converse Friday night but could only manage a 1-1 tie in women's collegiate soccer. The Cobras are 2-4-1 overall and 2-3 in the CVAC.
Converse played stout defense in front of an outstanding effort by their goalkeeper and seemed content to play for a tie. Coker slipped up with 30 minutes to play however and gave away an easy goal on a bad clearance that put the Cobras down 1-0. Converse focused almost entirely on defense after that and things were beginning to look grim for CC.
However, with eight minutes remaining, sophomore Kristie Lowe was able to break free and send in a cross that freshman Erin Blevins headed in the net to knot the score up at 1-1. The game remained tied through the first overtime period and then halfway through the second when the game was ended due to darkness.
The Cobras peppered the Converse defense, out-shooting their opponents 25-5 and maintaining a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Amy Kessler started in goal for CC and played the entire match.
Coker now travels to face Longwood College as part of a double header with the men's team Sunday September 30, beginning at 2 PM.
