Cobras Drop 1-0 Decision
Hartsville, SC
-- Coker lost a tough decision 1-0 to Mt. Olive Friday night in women's collegiate soccer. The Cobras were never able to get any rhythm going in the game and drop now to 5-9-1, and 2-6 in the conference. An already injury-depleted Coker side dwindled again in the fifth minute of the game when sophomore Toni Crowel was injured in a collision on a header. The two teams played evenly throughout the first half and the score remained tied at 0-0 at the break. Mt. Olive got the eventual game-winner five minutes in to the second half when LeAnn Young got to the rebound of her first shot and poked it into the goal. Coker pressed for the equalizer but the Trojan keeper saved the quality shots that the Cobras created.
Sophomore Summer Joyner, a member of the Coker softball team, played and started in goal in her first soccer match ever. Joyner joined the team this week after senior Amy Kessler was injured against Queens. Mt. Olive held a 11-8 shot advantage over the Cobras in a back-and-forth contest.
Coker will try to right the ship this Saturday, October 20, when they host Lees-McRae in another CVAC contest at 6 PM.
