Coker Falls At Francis Marion

Florence, SC – Coker College couldn’t get things going offensively in a 72-50 defeat at Francis Marion Tuesday night in women’s collegiate basketball.  After a poor first half the Cobras put forth a better effort and equaled the Patriots 32 points after the break.   Coker drops to 2-4 on the year, while FMU improves to 4-2.

The Cobras couldn’t find the basket in the first period and watched the Patriots race to a 40-18 halftime lead. CC shot only 26 percent in the period and turned the ball over 18 times.

Coker sharpened up after the break, and, led by junior Selena Davis, connected on 42 percent of their second-half attempts.  Davis, playing her first collegiate game back in her hometown, scored a game high 11 points, all in the second stanza.

Junior Leanne Chandler scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds, while freshman Ashley White finished with 10 points and four rebounds.  Freshman Justina Dakins totaled six points and six rebounds in only 15 minutes of work.

All but one of the Patriots scored in the game with no player scoring over nine.  Coker out-rebounded the hosts 40-35 but their 30 turnovers led to 35 Francis Marion points.

The Cobras are off now until a January trip to Wingate University.  Coker will participate in the Miller Orthopedic Classic on January 3-4 at Wingate.
