Cobras Plagued By Turnovers
Farmville, VA - Coker struggled on the road in a 77-48 defeat Longwood College Thursday night in women's collegiate basketball. The Cobras shot 33 percent from the field and turned the ball over 25 times in the loss. Coker falls to 1-13 overall and 1-8 in the CVAC, while the Lancers improves to 7-7 and 6-2 in the conference.
The Cobras got ahead early but held their last lead of the game at 9-7, when LC went on a 12-0 run to lead 19-9 with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. Longwood went on to lead 38-26 at the break. Coker came out with some fire in the second half and cut the lead down to 42-36 with just under 14 minutes to play but could not continue their momentum.
Sophomore CC Shipmon led the Cobras in scoring for the first time this year, finishing with 10 points and two steals. Classmate Selena Davis totaled eight points and five rebounds and sophomore Frederica McClary tallied seven points and five rebounds. Sophomore Lou Brunson led the team in rebounds with six.
The Cobras return home in search of a victory this Saturday, January 26 against CVAC rival St. Andrews. The two teams tip off at 2:00 PM in Timberlake Lawton Gymnasium.
