Cobras Narrowly Miss In Upset Bid

Banner Elk, NC - Coker nearly pulled off an upset at conference-leading Lees McRae Tuesday night but fell 65-60 in women's college basketball. The Cobras fall to 3-21 overall and 3-16 in the CVAC, while the Bobcats improve to 16-8 and 14-4 in the conference.

The Cobras grabbed the lead late in the first half and took a 31-28 advantage into the break. The team's traded the lead five times in the second period and were tied six times, with Coker holding its last lead 3:40 to go, when the Bobcats made their final run. LMC scored nine straight points in the crucial stretch, moving from down three to up six, 62-56, with 2:11 remaining. Coker pulled back within three but couldn't complete the comeback in the final minutes.

Sophomore Selena Davis led the Cobras with 18 points and eight rebounds in the game and classmate Leanne Chandler finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. Julie Hardison led the Bobcats with 19 points and DeAnna Lady finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and four steals.

Coker will complete the regular season this Saturday, February 23, at home against Longwood College. The Lancers and Cobras tip off at 5:30 PM.
