Coker Drops Tournament Opener

Wingate, NC - Coker dropped the opener of the Miller Orthopaedic Clinic Invitational at Wingate University 71-55 to Kennesaw State Friday afternoon in women's collegiate basketball. The Cobras put together their best shooting night of the season, connecting on 49 percent from the field, 56 percent from behind the arc, and 59 percent from the foul line. However, CC could not overcome their 41 turnovers in the game and now fall to 0-6 on the season while KSU improves to 5-1.

Coker trailed by 13 at the half, 33-20 but showed vast improvement again after the break and was only outscored by the Owls by three in the second stanza. The Cobras hit the boards hard and were only out-rebounded 33-31 by the taller KSU squad.

Sophomore Selena Davis led Coker with 13 points and five boards, and was followed by classmate Leanne Chandler with 11 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Joetta Wade contributed nine points, five assists, and four steals, while junior Lou Brunson and sophomore Frederica McClary each totaled six points and five caroms

The Cobras will play again Saturday, December 8 in the tournament at Wingate when they face Winston-Salem State at 2:00 PM.
