Coker Narrowly Defeated At Erskine
Due West, SC - Coker nearly came back from a 24-point deficit but couldn't make it all the way back, falling 71-69 at Erskine Tuesday night in women's college basketball. The Cobras fall to 2-17 overall and 2-12 in the CVAC, while EC improves to 5-15 and 4-10 in the conference.
Erskine started the game on fire and held a 42-18 lead as the first period was winding down. However, CC began their comeback with a 12-1 run to close the half and trailed 43-30 going into the break. Coker continued to keep up the pressure after halftime, shooting 50 percent from the field and holding the Flying Fleet to 37 percent shooting.
Coker pulled within two points twice in the final 30 seconds but each time Erskine converted two free throws to hold the charging Cobras off. CC took its final possession with 8.9 seconds left but could not get a shot off.
Sophomore center Leanne Chandler was too much for EC inside, scoring 17 points and pulling down five rebounds to lead Coker. Classmates Selena Davis and Frederica McClary also reached double-digit scoring, with Davis connecting for 12 points and five rebounds, and McClary totaling 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Senior Anna Robinson had nine points and four assists, and junior Lou Brunson finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
Coker now faces off with Queens College at home this Saturday, February 9, at 2:00 PM.
