Coker Earns First Win Of Season

Hartsville, SC - Coker won its first game of the season 49-34 over Erskine Thursday night in women's collegiate basketball. The Cobras held EC to 19 percent shooting in the game to help head coach Katie Pate get her first win as a collegiate head coach. Coker improves to 1-6 on the year and 1-2 in the CVAC while Erskine falls to 1-8 and 0-3 in conference.

The Flying Fleet stayed close early as CC got off to a slow start offensively. But the Cobras began to find their rhythm late in the half and pulled out to a 23-13 lead at the break. Erskine couldn't find its mark and CC crashed the boards, out-rebounding the fleet 25-13 in the half.

Coker came out in the second half and kept up the pressure on defense. The Cobras held Erskine to six points over the first 15 minutes of the second half and put the game away early. CC held a 48-28 rebounding advantage over Erskine in the game and shot 41 percent from the field.

Sophomore Chanda Brooker/Barnwell came off the bench to spark the Cobra offense with 12 points in 14 minutes on 5-7 shooting, and classmate Selena Davis/Florence chipped in nine points and five rebounds. Sophomore Frederica McClary/Manning led Coker with eight rebounds.
