Cobras Have No Answer For Reid

Wilson, NC – Center Shemkia Reid scored 27 points, pulled 11 rebounds and blocked three shots Thursday night to lead the Barton College women’s basketball team to a 70-56 victory over the visiting Cobras.

The victory lifted the Lady Bulldogs to 14-8 overall and 12-5 in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference while Coker slipped to 3-19 overall and 3-14 in league play.

Led by Reid, the Lady Bulldogs only trailed in the first minute of the game, then took control. However, the Lady Cobras, who were behind 20-4, proved gritty, keeping the margin fairly close for much of the game. Barton led 32-23 at intermission. It’s largest lead was 54-34 in the second half.

Barton shot 49.1 percent from the floor (27-of-55), with Reid draining 11-of-15 field-goal attempts. Coker was limited to 22-of-60 shooting for 36.7 percent. Barton posted a scant 37-35 rebounding advantage, with Kelly Lamotta yanking eight boards.

For Coker, sophomore forward Selena Davis drilled 20 points and hauled eight rebounds and junior guard Lou Brunson tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds.
