Coker Narrowly Defeated
Hartsville, SC - Coker nearly pulled off the upset Thursday evening before falling 47-42 to Barton in women's collegiate basketball. Coker drops to 1-9 overall and 1-5 in the CVAC while Barton moves to 7-4 and 5-1 in the conference.
Coker played a solid first half, leading most of the way, before the Bulldogs pulled ahead in the final minute to lead 28-27 at the break. The Cobras stayed with BC throughout the second period but faltered somewhat on offense down the stretch. CC shot only 22 percent after halftime and couldn't create some of the easy baskets that they'd gotten earlier.
Barton out-rebounded the Cobras 49-29 and made 10 steals in the game. Shemkia Reid had a double-double for the Bulldogs with 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead all scorers. Sophomore Selena Davis finished with 13 points, five rebounds and two steals to lead Coker.
Coker is back in action Saturday afternoon, January 19 against Belmont-Abbey. The Crusaders and Cobras tip off at 2:00 PM in Timberlake Lawton Gym.
