Coker Plays Well In Defeat
HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker played a solid match in a 2-0 loss to Francis Marion Saturday afternoon in men’s collegiate soccer. The Cobras drop to 0-4-1 on the year while the Patriots improve to 4-0.
Coker did a much better job pressuring the Patriots offensively than in their previous match and had several dangerous chances. FMU went ahead in the 35th minute on a goal by senior Ben Chavolla at the back post. The Cobras remained resilient and didn’t drop their heads in front of a large home crowd.
The Patriots kept the pressure up and in the 75th minute broke through again. Mike Greenaway rose above the defense and headed home the cross for a 2-0 FMU lead.
Sophomore Brent Washburn made his first start of the year in goal and went the distance with four saves. Jonathan Runion picked up a shut-out for the Patriots with four saves.
The Cobras must regroup quickly with a match looming on Monday, September 13, at 7:00 PM against Newberry College.
