Coker Falls At St. Andrews

Laurinburg, NC – Coker College dropped its ninth straight Saturday night in a 91-54 defeat at St. Andrews in men’s collegiate basketball.  The Cobras drop to 5-20 overall and 3-17 in the CVAC, while the Knights improve to 7-20 and 4-16 in conference.

The Cobras put up little resistance on defense as St. Andrews shot a scorching 59 percent from the field, including 56 percent from behind the arc.  The Knights out-rebounded Coker 31-22 and forced 24 turnovers on the strength of 18 steals.

Freshman Jason Fullwood showed a glimpse of the future with 15 points on 5-8 shooting, including 4-7 from three.  Senior Derrall Beason scored 11 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out seven assists.

Rommie Williams led the Knights with 18 points and was followed by Andrew Duke with 12 markers.  Tomas Ivanauskas tallied 11 points and seven boards and Gilbert Abraham finished with 10 points in only six minutes.  Ashford Gray turned in a solid effort with six points, eight assists, and seven steals.

The regular season came to a close with Saturday’s loss and the Cobras will take the road for a first-round CVAC Tournament game on Monday, March 3, at 7:00 PM.
