Cobras Battle But Fall Short
Misenheimer, NC – Coker College put up a valiant effort at Pfeiffer Thursday night but couldn’t complete the upset bid in a 91-89 loss in men’s collegiate basketball. Coker slides to 5-12 overall and 3-9 in the CVAC, while the Falcons improve to 15-4, and 9-3 in conference.
Both teams shot the lights out in an up-and-down contest. The Cobras took a 45-42 lead into the break behind 58 percent shooting from the field. Coker remained hot in the second half but Pfeiffer rarely missed, hitting on an amazing 65 percent of their shots. The contest was ultimately decided at the foul line, where PU connected on 27-31 attempts, while the Cobras only managed to get to the stripe six times, making three.
Senior Derrall Beason led all scorers with 27 points and got plenty of help from senior classmates Derrick Hilton and LaDerek Snell. Hilton finished with 19 points, five rebounds, and six assists, while Snell totaled 16 points, six rebounds and two steals. Junior Quentin Demeritte put forth another solid effort with seven points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Kenny Mickens led the Falcons with 25 points and five rebounds, while Raymond McKeithan finished with 16 points, six rebounds and three steals. Anthony Williams scored 14 points and dished out four assists.
Coker will try to get back in the win column this Saturday, February 8, against Erskine College. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 PM tip off.
