Cobras Dropped At Longwood
Farmville, VA – Coker College fell to Longwood University 69-57 Tuesday night in men’s collegiate basketball. The Cobras drop to 5-18 overall and 3-15 in the CVAC, while LU improves to 14-12 and 11-8 in conference.
Coker stayed close in the first half but its only lead of the game in the opening minutes at 3-2. The Cobras remained within striking distance but after pulling within one point with just over a minute to play, they saw the lead creep back up to a 29-24 margin at the break.
Longwood finally took control of the game midway through the second period, pushing its lead to 64-43 with six minutes to play before CC made a late push. The 14-5 run, led by senior Dominic Serafini’s six points, prevented the Lancers from blowing it open.
Senior Derrall Beason led the way with 17 points and classmate Derrick Hilton chipped in 15 points and three assists. Ryan Earl led LU with 17 points and six assists, and was followed by John Parker with 16 points and eight boards. Charles Stephens came off the bench to contribute 14 points and Nick Payne finished with 11.
Coker will make up a postponed game against Barton this Thursday, February 27, at 7:00 PM in Hartsville.
