Cobras Fall At Home

Hartsville, SC – Coker College started poorly again Saturday afternoon in an 82-64 loss to Longwood University in men’s collegiate basketball.  Coker drops to 3-10 overall and 1-7 in the CVAC, while the Lancers improve to 9-6, and 6-2 in the conference.

LU opened up a 9-0 lead to start the game and pushed it to 30-10 in the first 11 minutes of action.  The margin hovered around 20 for much of the final nine minutes until another Longwood run pushed the lead to 50-23 at the break.

Coker did a better job of stopping The Lancers runs in the second half and was able to outscore LU 41-32 in the second half because of it.  After Longwood shot a scorching 63 percent in the first period, CC was able to force more difficult attempts in the second half and trim the margin.

Seniors Dominic Serafini and Derrick Hilton led the way offensively, each totaling 11 points in the game. Senior Derrall Beason made up for an off night shooting with six assists, and sophomore Terry Whitaker pulled in a team-best six rebounds to go along with seven points.

Ryan Earl and Charles Stephens scored 20 points apiece and Marek Zielinski added 13 to lead LU.  Stephens also grabbed 8 rebounds, while Earl dished out seven assists.

The Cobras will face St. Andrews for the first and only time this season on Tuesday, January 28, in Timberlake-Lawton Gym.  The contest is scheduled for a 7:30 tip-off.
