Cobras Can't Overcome Limestone
Coker College dropped a tough 82-73 decision to Limestone College Friday night in men’s collegiate basketball. The Cobras stayed with the Saints all game long and but were outscored 11-2 in the final minutes of the loss. Coker slips to 4-11 on the year and 2-8 in the CVAC, while the Saints improve to 6-10, 6-4 in conference.
Coker opened the game with solid shooting for a change and, after establishing an early lead, trailed 39-34 at the break. The Cobras connected on 8-16 three pointers in the opening half to keep pace with LC.
The Saints were able to maintain their lead for the entire second half but were never able to put CC away. Coker made a push in the last five minutes and erased a 10 point lead to tie the score at 71-71 with less than three minutes to play. Unfortunately the Cobras would not take the lead and Limestone played efficient offense to put the game away.
Senior Derrall Beason ended with his first double-double of the season, collecting a game-high 21 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. Senior Derrick Hilton chipped in 14 points and three steals, and classmate Dominic Serafini finished with eight points and six rebounds.
Limestone featured five players in double figures, led by Andre Dorsey with 17 points. Brandon Shipman scored 15 points and Antonio Mays totaled 13 points and eight rebounds. Demarcio Downs earned a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Donald Johnson added 10 points and four steals.
The Cobras will prepare over the weekend for a Monday, February 3, trip to Anderson. The women play the first game of the double-header, with the men scheduled to take the floor at 7:30.
