Cobras Dropped By Patriots

Hartsville, SC – Coker College had a rough shooting night in a 70-50 loss to Francis Marion Tuesday night in men’s collegiate basketball.  The Patriots held CC to 33 percent shooting from the field and 25 percent from behind the arc in the victory.  Coker drops to 1-4 overall, while FMU improves to 2-3 on the season.

A three-pointer from senior Derrall Beason tied the game at 19-19 with 9:36 to play in the first half but that was the last time the Cobras would equal Francis Marion.  FMU scored 10 straight points and pushed the lead to 15 with 3:37 to go in the period before Coker whittled the margin back to 36-26 at the break.

The Cobras hung around for much of the second half but were never able to make a decisive run.  The Patriots maintained a double digit lead for the entire half and pushed the margin up to 20 in the final five minutes.

Beason was the high-man for Coker with 11 points in the game and was followed by junior Charlie Ludwig with eight points.  Mike Buglione led the Patriot attack with 20 points, including six three pointers.  Louis McCullough contributed 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals for FMU, and Jaquan Bracey also tallied a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Cobras are off for exams now and will return to the court next Tuesday, December 17, at 7:30 PM.  Coker will travel to face its second Peach Belt Conference foe of the year at UNC-Pembroke.
