Cobras Second-Half Drought Brings Defeat
Hartsville, SC – Coker College stumbled through the second half on their way to a 62-58 loss against Erskine Saturday afternoon in men’s collegiate basketball. The Cobras lost a 12 point halftime lead in the first five minutes of the second period and didn’t recover. Coker drops to 5-13 and 3-10 in the CVAC, while the Flying Fleet improves to 9-10, 6-7 in conference.
Coker played a solid first half jumping out to a big lead early and cruising into the break with a 37-25 lead. CC shot 56 percent from the field in the period and limited Erskine to 33 percent shooting. Senior Derrall Beason was especially warm, scoring 13 points on 5-7 shooting.
The second half was a different story entirely, as the Fleet raced out of the gates against the sluggish Cobras. EC scored the first 12 points of the half to tie the score at 37 and kept pouring it on, outscoring CC 30-5 in the first nine minutes of the period. Coker eventually battled back in the closing minutes but couldn’t make enough plays to pull out the win.

Bobby Isom led all scorers with 21 points and 10 rebounds and Markus Oertelt recorded 18 points and six boards.
Coker will now travel to Lees-McRae this Tuesday, February 11 for a 7:30 PM scheduled tip-off.
