Cobras Can't Complete Comeback

Charlotte, NC – Coker College fell 81-72 Saturday afternoon to Queens University of Charlotte in men’s collegiate basketball.  The Cobras put up a determined effort but couldn’t overcome a talented Royals team in Charlotte.  Coker falls to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in the CVAC, while Queens improves to 10-1, and 3-1 in conference.

CC fell behind early as the Royals shot an impressive 58 percent from the field in the first half. Queens began to pull away mid-way through the half and built a 48-28 lead at the break.

The Cobras put on a furious rally in the second half and trimmed a lead that had ballooned to 23 points down to eight before succumbing to defeat.  Coker out-rebounded the Royals 32-27 but a whopping 29 turnovers were too much to overcome.

Senior Derrall Beason had the hot hand Saturday as he led all scorers with 29 points.  Beason connected on 11-17 shots from the floor, including 4-5 from behind the arc.  Beason also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists.

Sophomore Terry Whitaker scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and senior LaDerek Snell totaled 11 points and five assists.

Queens featured four players scoring in double figures, led by guard Spencer Ross with 19 points. Center Moustapha Diouf recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 blocks.
