Coker Can't Contain Belmont Abbey

Belmont, NC – The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team held Coker College to 39% shooting and outrebounded the Cobras 40-28 for the game, rolling to an 81-55 victory at the Wheeler Center Thursday night.

Coker held it's own with the Crusaders for the first ten minutes, trailing just 11-10 midway through the first half. Belmont Abbey (19-5 overall, 13-4 CVAC) responded by going on a 12-1 run, and holding the Cobras (5-16, 3-14) without a field goal for over six minutes, and the Crusaders would eventually take a 32-21 lead at the half.

In the second half both teams shot the ball much better from the floor, as Coker's Derrall Beason tried to keep his team close by scoring 16 of his game-high 24 points in the second half. But Belmont Abbey shot 53% in the second half, and 12 different Crusaders would score in the game.

Damien Humphrey led Belmont Abbey with 14 points, while Letrasky Pressley and Rafael Moreira  each scored 13.  Freshman Johnny Jackson added 10 points to Beason's 24, as they were the only two Coker players in double figures.

Coker next hosts Queens University of Charlotte this Saturday, February 20, at 4:00 PM.
