Cobras Steal One At Anderson

Anderson, SC – Coker College overcame a nine point half-time deficit to win 74-64 over Anderson College Monday night in men’s collegiate basketball.  The Cobras overwhelmed AC 48-29 on 68 percent shooting in the second half.  Coker improves to 5-11 overall and 3-8 in the CVAC, while the Trojans drop to 5-13, and 3-8 in conference.

Anderson opened a 35-26 at the break after a quick start put the Cobras behind 14-4 in the early stages. Coker settled in and cut the lead to 22-20 with just over five minutes to play before AC burst back ahead as the half neared.

The Trojans pushed the margin to 15 points with 12:08 to play before the Cobras began to chip away.  Freshman Jason Fulwood connected on back-to-back threes to pull CC within nine but AC still led by 10 points as late as the 8:28 mark.

With Anderson leading 64-59 Coker returned to the three to take their first lead of the game since the opening minutes of play. Junior Quentin Demeritte knocked one home to pull the Cobras within two and senior Derrall Beason connected on CC’s next possession to take a 65-64 lead.

Coker never looked back and salted the game away at the foul line in the final minute. The Cobras did an outstanding job defensively as the clock dwindled down, holding the Trojans scoreless over the final 6:10 of play.

Demeritte led Coker with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Beason totaled 14 points and a career-high nine assists.  Seniors LaDerek Snell and Dominic Serafini, and sophomore Terry Whitaker all scored eight points, with Snell also adding five rebounds and four assists.
